helloooo from SF!

polaroid

sunday night.
four days since i’ve landed.
48 hours to overcome jetleg.
time difference is a bit of a deal but not a big one (9 hours with italy and 5 with brazil)

but no major complaints.
i’m afterall in san francisco at last!
my first ever visit!

yeap. yeap. yeap!!!

my host is a sweet darling. her house is top! perfection to every single detail. and alamo square is one block from her doorsteps.
big time recomendation if you’re visiting and need a place to stay. just visit amrita’s page on airbnb.

i have walked so much. i believe it’s the best way to know a place.
to breath, to gaze and wander around together with the residents.

with my start/finish point at mcallister st i have been so far through market st (and side roads), embarcadero (piers and the saturday farmers market at ferry building), telegraph hill, north beach, russian hill, nob hill, chinatown, noe valley, haights, a beautiful bike ride at golden gate park…to name a few.

people smile at you.
been blessed with such awesome weather.
the speed and shapes of clouds fascinates me. i could watch them all day long.
it’s windy but i have my scarf with me.
the city has it’s problem (serious ones but which city hasn’t?!?!) and yet they don’t ignore it and the pace of such renowned positive vibe city keeps it up.

monday is a national holiday. labour day.
happy holidays to all my american friends.

as from tuesday full gear on as i’m visiting the universities, meeting people i have been in touch and work over the networld (sooooo happy about it!) and getting to explore more and more this magical city.

on a dog note: my gosh stella (the dog!) would love to move out here! how dogfriendly is SF guys?!?!? i’m well impressed!

from me to you, right here in san francisco.
lots of love and wishes of a good week

“hate” is a damaging word

so….there is someone that hates san francisco afterall!!?!

i was having breakfast this morning, browsing through facebook, the news while sipping my big mug of coffee when i came across a post from huffing post calling an article “Peter Shish ’10 I Hate About You’ Post Draws San Francisco’s Ire, Confirms Startup Stereotypes“.
curious to find out what it was all about i clicked it open to read what it seems to be a great mess created by mr. celery.

ok let’s go one step at a time.

first of all i can’t help but laugh about this story. and i’ll explain why…

if you are reading this post/blog you might have understood that we know we, the senises, are moving to san francisco. it was love “virtually” at first sight. the desire of some “fresh air” to the mind. many researches and studing i’ve been doing, and after a few months, since my decison, one thing i can say is that i never read or heard the “hate” word about san francisco. period. not even on a sarcastic way (impression mr. celery tried to use to excuse /explain himself after the fatidic post on Medium).

all i read, hear and feel about my virtual experience with san francisco has only been positive. the articles, posts, people i spoke about san francisco, people i speak in san francisco. it’s, again my feelings, all about generosity, positiviness, helpfulness and most of all, at ease attitude.

erickson-kerne-san-francisco

so when i read the article about Peter Shih’s, let’s call gaffe, i thought “oh well, at least someone doesn’t like san francisco. but hey…you loner one, you seem to have hit a delicate spot there.”
i googled the guy’s name and the amout of results i got, besides his fame for creating a successful start up, in a city he “hates” and becoming a multi milionare thanks to it, was just hilarious! all the twitters have gone mad, fliers around the city invinting him to go back to new york city, a rebuttal post from Medium trying to pacify the whole situation, many bloggers expressing their opinion, sfgate.com news have crossed the ocean and gone to uk ( guardian / dailymail )…just to name a few hits….

considering my position with this blog, my virtual (soon to become real…) love with san francisco i can’t not join the san francisco residents and lovers in this matter!!

sorry mr. celery but you won’t gain any way of empathy from my side. but thanks for all the laughs with you big gaffe.

(fan note to “the bold italic” writer Jennifer Maerz: you have a very good point!!)

where do you live?!

i guess choosing a nice place in a good area is one very important and top of the list priorities.
well i don’t know San Francisco, at all. besides movies, pictures and books.
but for some magic reason i have fallen in love, even before landing…
a while ago i googled a specific search (no specific destination), hit the first link and ended up in San Francisco!
Destiny? Serendipity? Coincidence?
i’ll choose all three of them! i like the combination!
so i got to study a bit about the city, the bay area, outside (i like a lot the east bay area!), the fact that there is a great italian influence of immigrants.
of course the first thing i started putting emphasis was on getting to know the neighborhoods…well i’ve improved! from reading loads, seeing pics and speaking to some of my contacts i have in the west coast, i have made some ideas of a few areas i like, but again only when you are there, face to face, you actually get the right (or wrong) feelings.

as for rental prices i have already understood very well the situation! but let’s focus on the matter here and talk about areas (good & bad ones!)

About us

i guess it is time for me to introduce ourselves a bit better, besides the brief intro you can find on the “about” page with the link bellow.

my world is surrounded by food, passion, work with children, work with adults, living experince in three different cities (sao paulo, london and turin).
i graduated in london (marketing & business for the food industry), a long time ago dare i say…(well 2000 seems a long time ago anyway!) have worked with big names in the industry (london based and international), worked with teaching english for italian toddlers, created a children food education blog (mangia che ti fa bene bimbo!), joined as an ambassador the Jamie Oliver Foundation team, created a Foodsitter figure which i use to be more appealing when dealing & writing my blog and in real life work situation. Oh of course, i almost forgot… i have a small activity online where i make, by pre ordering, a brazilian sweet called brigadeiro.
well let’s say i don’t give much space for boredom in my life!

as for Teo, Jasmine and Stella….they are my beloved “zoo”. They became part of my life since i moved to Italy along the eight years i have been here. Teo, the big boy of the family, is 5. Jasmine, the feline lady, is 4 and Stella, the super fun and cuddly dog, is 3.
needless to say how much they are simply super! the energy and great vibe they bring into the house and in my life.
on a very important note (and nope i’m not writing it just for the sake of it….) they are beyond clean and well behaved. really! my friends tell me all the time how lucky i’m! (i know!!) seriuosly, i never had to deal with odours problems, dirt in the house, poo, pee…yes there is one downside….hair!! but hey what are hoovers for?!?! and indeed this is one of the main reason why they will be coming with me (besides the fact that i would not even consider leaving them behind! i’m totally against abbandoning animals). I’m sure they will adapt just fine and live healthly and cleanly just like they live before. the cats are used to being indoors with exporadic outdoors (if there is the possibility).

About.

big hug x x x

…from Turin to San Francisco….

it all started with the urge of change.
not so long ago.
due to one straight simple reason.
a really bad time to live in italy.

gran madre, turin
after a great deal of consideration i decided to push that “google search” button and explore what was out there for work on the fields i have experience.
there was one specific result that “drove” my attention to San Francisco. i got myself hooked on studying about this city. it didn’t take me much¬† to “fall in love”. with SF and the idea of spending sometime there.
initial aims were diverted and so i chose to literally take some time off and go back to studying (more like updating my year 2000 graduation Degree), taking up some good and cool cooking courses, changing the pace of life a bit, search for new inspirations, initiatives and all the positive things a new experience like this one can give!
i admit it is not the first time i move cities. brazilian born from a half brazilian half italian family, i left Sao Paulo, brazil at the age of 19 to live and study in London. 10 amazing years between studies and a great professional life in the F&B world. with a brief pit stop in Sao Paulo and i moved to Turin, eight years ago. a city well known to me as i have dear friends since the times i used to go to summer schools abroad when i was a child. not only well known but also very dear to my heart. like London i can say Turin will always have that “home feeling”.
but now it’s time to see if SF will have that special sparkle with me too!

painted ladies on a foggy day, credits Tumblr
however i seriously need some “help” here!!
besides the internet with all the blogs and their stories (most of them i have to say pretty positive), great incentive and feedback from some contacts i have in SF (and also LA) and friends that have been or lived, i know very little in concrete terms.
well i know it’s expensive. full stop.
let’s bypass that obvious fact and move on to more specific points.
points which i will breakdown in specific posts.
– a place to live (as you realised the senise’s are in four and three of them are pets…this being the most important post to be published next in great details)
– choice of neighborhood (i have read tones about it but i’m happy to hear personal experiences and suggestions)
– work experiences (sharing, exchanging, suggesting…)
– what to expect in certain situations (again happy to hear personal experiences)
i guess those were just a few ones to start with….
in the next 6 months i hope to share the good and the bad moments (it can’t be all flowers we all know!!) with you, all the planning, steps and developments about the great adventure of the senise’s moving to SF!

thanks for staying with us!
